Chapter 3

                                        Language Arts 8, Period 3

The Spanish Trip     October 21, 2009

Brie woke up to the annoyance of her alarm. It was a cold Tuesday and she felt the morning chill bite at her nose as she opened her window. She got ready fast, knowing Austin would be waiting for her. He was always so early on Tuesdays, which seemed peculiar, but true in fact.

They both rushed out the door, and took their time walking to school, talking and laughing with each other. They reached school at last. They had just enough time to make it to their lockers and a few minutes to spare talking with their friends. Brie’s best friend was Alexa, she was amiable to Brie more than anyone she has ever known. She had long blonde hair, and from a lot of people’s point of view they said she was gorgeous looking. Brie knew her from ballet they were both the most fascinate in the class. Austin’s best friend was Justin. Justin had brown spiky hair, and was hysterical. He could make anyone laugh.

They were all gathered in a circle, steaming up gossip, and Justin made them all laugh. When the bell rang, they all ran to their first period. Second period passes and Brie was having a vile day. By third period things started to get interesting, when the teacher announced there was going to be a class trip, and only sixty spots were able to fill.

" Now this is not a field trip students", said the Spanish teacher.

This soon caught the attention of most students.

"We will be flying out of the country to Costa Rica.” the teacher exclaimed.

The bell rang, and the students burst into conversation of their trip. Austin saw a big group of people huddling around shoving and pushing each other, when he quickly sprinted over. Brie, eyes focused on him, and then wondered as well. When they made it over to the big group they realized everyone was fighting over the sign up sheet to Costa Rica, Austin tried to wait his turn although he saw Brie push everyone out of the way, grabbed a pen from an innocent freshman and wrote her, and Austin’s names down, she then grabbed two handouts for the both of them. She filled the last two spots #59 and #60. Austin looked at her impressed, He never would've guessed a stick thin ballerina would be able to make her way through at least 100 people. Austin was very excited for the trip, but yet he was very unsure of how he felt. He was not sure what was going to happen.

On the other hand Brie was so excited once she signed her name and Austin’s she ran over to Alexa and started rambling on about how excited she was, Alexa was going also, she signed her name right before Brie, well technically Justin did, Alexa knew Justin liked her, he has for awhile, and he’s even told her.

    .

Brie has never found herself more relieved to hear the last bell of the day, she couldn't wait to get home and talk to her parents about Costa Rica.

Austin sat at Brie’s locker and preset it for her as usual. He knew she'd take forever to get her things. She ran up with all her loose-leaf papers flying everywhere and he went over to pick up the ones she tracked down the hall. She nearly took forever to get her things, she was the most disorganized person Austin has every met.

Once they left the building they started on their walk home, and Brie went on and on about how she was so excited, yes this was the usual, Brie was a very outgoing person, but Austin did not say a word, brie noticed he was not acting himself and she didn't bother asking him why, or in better words trying to get it out of him. She stopped talking, and looked at him for a second. There was a silent moment of awkwardness between the two of them, which barely ever happened. Brie cared about Austin but she was way too excited to let this little problem of his bother her, so she decided to brush it off her shoulder and not worry about it.

Austin watched Brie run into her house quickly and turn around and give a quick wave then shut the large wooden door. Austin was walking slower, his hands where buried in his pockets, and he was looking at the ground mournfully as though he was going to cry. Austin rarely ever cried, he was tough, but at this moment he was disappointed, hearing everything Brie was saying about the trip made him even sadder. He knew Brie’s parents were very wealthy, they were both doctors and this trip was 2,500 dollars Austin knew his parents were just making ends meet. Austin liked Brie, deep down he'd admit it to himself. Brie knew everything about him, but this secret he was wiling to hide. He liked being with Brie she made him feel special, Austin was a quiet guy, and Brie suited him.

Brie picked up the phone and dialed her parent’s emergency pager. Her dad answered while panicking “Is everything ok?”, said Brie’s father.

“ Ya course dad, I just wanted to know if I can go on this Spanish trip, please dad please say yes!”

“ Brie! This is my emergency pager that was very inept of you I was scared!” said her father.

“ Okay I understand I am sorry, but can I?”

“Yes, that's fine”, her father exclaimed.

“Okay! Thanks dad! Bye love you”, responded Brie.

Everything was going perfect for Brie, and her parents, but Austin’s parents thought otherwise.
