Black

What, I thought he was in the Mafia? Oh, what should I do. Maybe I should tell my mom. Yes, I should tell Mom. “Mom,” Austin tried to call out, but it would not come out. What do I do, something is not adding up? Why is the room spinning? Wait, no, it’s black? Where’d the room go? “Wack.”

Austin’s eyes slowly opened to see Brie. Am I hallucinating, thought Austin. “Brie, is that you?”

“Yes, yes it is. Oh my, Austin, are you okay. I just got a call from your mom, and she was like Austin’s in the hospital, and I almost freaked out. Oh, my, Oh, my...” Brie continued. Austin stop listening after the word hospital.

He slowly stuttered, “Hospital, I’m in the hospital. How? Why? When? Wait why?”

“Well, you passed out, and so your mom called an ambulance, and they came when you were unconscious.”

“I was unconscious,” cut in Austin.

“Yes, yes you were, so the doctors ran some tests and claimed that you had an anxiety attack. And I was like Austin is the calmest person I know. And they were like, well you’re wrong...Yeah, so now we’re here!” Brie exclaimed. “So, are you feeling okay?”

“A bit confused, but I think anyone in this situation would be.” Austin took a deep breath and thought to himself, the last thing I remember is CIA. My dad is in the CIA or the Mafia, no CIA was the latest.

Brie cut into his thoughts, “ So how is your job going?”

“Ummmm, well, you know what, GREAT! I’ve learned so much,” as Austin said this all he could think about is his dad. His dad is what he learned a lot about.

“So much, good or bad, because you sound sarcastic,” Brie replied.

“Good, I didn’t say it sarcastically,” Austin snapped. She was dubious. “So what were you doing you look lovely in that dress?” he quickly added. And she was quickly enthralled.

“Oh, shopping, and I didn’t have time to change so I gave them the money, told them to keep the change, and ran,” she smiled with a tranquil look.

“Thank-you!” he smiled widely.

“What is with the sarcasm, today?”

“No really, that is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me,” Austin answered easily. The doctor knocked on the door.

“Hello Austin, I’m Dr. Riley. Brie do you mind if we talk alone for a second?”

“Oh no, not at all,” Brie said as she scurried out the door.

“Okay, no Austin. I have a very serious question. Right before you passed out what were you doing or thinking?” Dr. Riley asked.

“Uh, just nothing.”

“No Austin, I need an answer.”

“I was carry laundry and feel down the stairs. Everything started to go black, and that’s all she wrote.”

“Really that’s it,” he asked doubting him the whole time.

“Yep.” After that, Dr. Riley checked for a concussion. He started by flashing a light in his eyes. Austin stayed in deep thought while he checked.

Dr. Riley then started in with, “Well, there are no signs of a concussion, but I want to watch you for a month or two. So first let’s see you in two weeks. Then, if your fine, I want one more visit a month later. Does that sound good?”

“Yes. That sounds good,” Austin replied.

“Great, then all you have to do is change into your clothing. Witch is next to your bed. And you can go home.”

“Perfect. Thanks. See you in two weeks.” Austin shut the door behind Dr. Riley and changed quickly. He noticed his dad’s wallet was in his pocket of his jeans. He quickly shoved it in his pocket and walked out the door. Brie was nice enough to offer to drive him home.

Brie was the one to break it, “Austin do you think this Saturday after your work we could hang out, maybe eat some dinner?”

“Brie, don’t you have ballet?”

“I can break that for one night of hanging out. I am a teenager, not a perfect person. So do you want to?”

“That sounds like fun. I could use a break to. My mind has been overly stuffed lately,” Austin happily answered.

“Well, I can’t wait,” she paused, “you’re home!”

“Thanks for the ride again, bye,” Austin graciously said!
