                                                                                       Auschwtz death camp

Around eleven million people were killed during the Holocaust. Six million of the people killed were Jewish and killed just because it was possible. The other five million people were non-Jews. They were killed because Hitler did not want them in his perfect race. His perfect race was known as the Aryian race. They were either killed on the spot or taken to death camps to suffer. In death camps people were killed by gassing, starvation, shooting, disease, burning, and any other way that was thought of.

 Ways of extermination

When prisioners first arrived in death camps, they were killed on the spot or sent straight to the gas chambers unless they were fit to work (The Holocaust). They would be forced into the gas chambers or just shot on the spot (Gates). They could also die of starvation, disease, shooting, and burning (Auschwitz). The gas chambers were used to exterminate large sums of people using Zyklon-B gas (The Holocaust). Jews, gypsies, Soviet POWs and other prisoners were all killed (The Holocaust). If the prisioners were fit to work they would recieve hard and pointless jobs (Auschwitz). Ms. Brown stated, “Some of the jobs were even assisting in the killings of  their friends and family”(Brown).  Some prisioners were also killed through brutal medical experiments.

Doctors

Dr. Josef Mengele was the main doctor at Auschwitz (Auschwitz). Carl Clauberg came to Auschwitz in 1942 to assist Mengele in his practices (Auschwitz). Clauberg worked mostly with Jewish and gypsy women (Auschwitz). He killed women with injections that caused horrible pain, stomach spasms, and bleeding (Auschwitz). Dr. Herta Oberhauser also came to Auschwitz (Auschwtiz). She worked mostly with adults. She gave them oil injections, took out main organs, and threw sawdust and chipped glass into open wounds (Auschwitz). “You could hear the muffled screams of the victims as you walked past” (Rosenberg). All of the doctors were put on trial in October of 1946 (The Holocaust). It was called the Nuremberg Medical Trial (The Holocaust). Twenty- three death camp doctors were accused of performing inhumane experiments on victims(The Holocasut). Josef Mengele was not one of the doctors that were accused in the trial and he continued his work at Auschwitz(The Holocasut).

 Experiments

Josef Mengele was always the fist doctor that was called when an "experiment" needed to be done (The Holocaust). He preformed untrained spinal surgery, body dissection, and twin sketches on his patients (Auschwitz). The get his experimental bodies he went into the barracks and offered clothes and candy to people (Auschwitz). Then he took them personally to the laboratory (Auschwitz). He mostly experimented on the children rather than the adults (Auschwitz). Some of the patients were placed into pressure chambers, tested with drugs, frozen to death, and traumatized (The Holocaust). Rosenberg stated, “This torture was evil, only done to amuse people” (Rosenberg). These acts of torture were comitted to find cheaper and easier ways to kill people. Mengele sent 400,000 people to their deaths because of medical experiments (The Holocaust). Most if not all if the experiments were preformed without anesthesia (Gates). There was one experiment that Mengele loved to perform more than anything else (Gates). That was twin experiments (Gates).

Twins

When a pair of twins was found they would be killed at the exact same time to keep the body cycle in sync (Auschwitz). Mengele then dissected each twin personally because he liked to sketch every part of their bodies exactly (Auschwitz). Josef Mengele did numerous tests to see how the twins reacted (Gates). He put dye in their eyes to attempt to change their eye color (Gates). Mengele stated, "The more we do to you, the less you believe we are doing it"(Dr. Joseph Mengele). He was almost fanatical about drawing and exchanging blood (The Holocaust). The victims were usually left without bandages and died because of infection if they did not die during the experiment (The Holocaust). If the victims did not die during or after the experiment cycle they were killed (Auschwitz).  Mengele worked with other doctors as well in his laboratory (Auschwtz). They assisted him in his terrible experiments.
